We at Chameleon eBooks believe that reading books is one of the most effective means to increasing educational outcomes, improving levels of happiness and confidence, enhancing imagination and aspirations, promoting social participation and mobility. As part of this approach, we have worked to develop a classroom activities pack. The focus is to bring the storybook to teachers who are looking for deeper ways to integrate interactive digital books into their classroom setting. The pack includes activities aligned with the new US Common Core State Standards to help teachers integrate the product into the curriculum.
Scope of Activities
The classroom activities for The Neighborhood Watch Kids and Duh Color Stuff are made up of the following disciplines: Language Arts, Social Studies, Life Skills and Art. Each activity is related to events, behaviors, and topics covered in the book. The activities are appropriate for a range of ages in intermediate grades.
Activities are accompanied by explanations and activity sheets to help you integrate the interactive story experience into ongoing classroom activities.
Materials for each lesson
The Classroom Activities assume that you have access to:
– At least one tablet or electronic whiteboard to view The Neighborhood Watch Kids and Duh Color Stuff interactive storybook.
– Paper and drawing or writing materials.
Classroom Setup
The activities expand on the interactive story experience, rather than assuming or requiring that each child is using his or her own computer or tablet. Most of the activities encourage cooperative learning in which students explore and learn together, sharing on-screen exploration and the relevant classroom activities.
We encourage using these activities as supplements to The Neighborhood Watch Kids and Duh Color Stuff and expanding upon them with events and situations the children may experience on a daily basis in or outside of the classroom.
We would love to hear about your experience with the classroom activities – Talk with us in our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/thewatchkids or by email: info@thewatchkids.com
